BENOIT MOREAU Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Cardeuse" Blanc 2021
Wine Region: Burgundy - France
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes: "From holdings that hitherto went into the Domaine Bernard Moreau Morgeot bottling, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Cardeuse Blanc is the first time, to my knowledge, that this climat, located on the border with Santenay and surrounded by imposing dry stone walls, has been indicated on a label in white. Mingling aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, pear, white flowers and beeswax with subtle hints of reduction, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a more multidimensional, muscular profile than the quintessentially elegant Fairendes." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
About the winery:
Following the division of Domaine Bernard Moreau in November 2020, Benoit Moreau took his share of the vineyard to start his own estate. Before the separation, Bernard’s sons, Alex and Benoit, worked in the family estate, Domaine Bernard Moreau, along with their father until 1999. Later Alex and Benoit became the sole custodians of the family domain for the last 21 years, from 1999 to 2020. The first vintage from Benoit’s own vineyard is 2021. "Moreau is clearly an accomplished winemaker who is hitting the ground running. Overnight, a new star has been added to Chassagne's firmament, and importers will want to beat a path to Benoit's door." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
