Tasting notes: Notes of cherries, wild berries, burning embers, exotic spices and orange rind introduce Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts, a medium to full-bodied, lively and precise wine with a pretty core of fruit, fine tannins and a bright, mineral finish. This higher-altitude site appears to have turned in a very strong performance this year.
About the winery: Maurice Chevallier took over 4 hectares of the family vineyards in 1971 and started his own Domaine. Eloise and Benoit, two of his children, have been working a small portion of the vines since 2009. They work using traditional methods. During harvest, they sort in the vineyard, all the pressing is done manually, ageing in oak barrels for about 20 months with a reasonable amount of new barrels used. The objective of the Domaine is to produce wines with a true expression of the fruit, specific to the personality of each climate and dimension attributed from different vintages.
