Chateau SMITH HAUT LAFITTE Pessac-Leognan 2014
Wine Region: Bordeaux - France
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Tasting notes: The nose is expressive, very black, with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, then after it offers power of a black fruits blend made of red fruits, spices, pepper, liquorice, and delicate notes of flint... The palate is tight and round with a great acidity balanced by a good concentration and a good tannic structure.
About the winery:
Located in the heart of the appellation of Pessac-Leognan Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest Chateau in Bordeaux, dating to 1365. Ski champions Daniel and Florence Cathiard purchased the iconic property in 1990, initiating a period of investment and renewed passion. Of the chateau's 78 hectares of vines, 67 are dedicated to producing red wine (35% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc), and 11 to produce a predominately Sauvignon Blanc white. Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte wines develop a vibrant expressiveness and complexity marked by perfectly ripe fruits.
