Domaine de LA BONGRAN Vire-Clesse "Cuvee EJ Thevenet" 2019
Wine Region: Burgundy - France
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes:
The just-released 2019 Viré-Clessé Cuvée E. J. Thevenet is showing nicely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of orange confi t, honeycomb, pear and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's dense and layered, with bright acids and a charming, suave style despite its concentration. Aromatically, it's still a touch reserved and will really reward a few more years of bottle age. - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
About the winery:
Family property, the vineyard has been passed down from generation to generation of winegrowers and stonemasons. It covers 15 hectares on the land of Quintaine. Emile then Jean and his son Gautier Thevenet, heirs to long-standing know-how, work there with the utmost respect for nature and this specific land. Here, the terroir, where the subsoil - the white marls - shows at the foot of the vines, allows the grape variety, exclusively Chardonnay, to give its full potential. It brings complexity and finesse to the wine, a fair balance between aromatic power and minerality.
