DOMAINE BILA-HAUT
M. Chapoutier
The Roussillon area was made for Michel Chapoutier. It was in Latour de France that he chose to set up his domain. The vines of Bila-Haut and Occultum Lapidem were the first expressions of this terroir. Then there followed six years of reflection, observation and analysis to produce a precious, rare wine: v.i.t. The story continued near a little village called Lesquerde. Steep, craggy limestone, arid soil, battered by the tramontane wind... A wine wriggled free from the grasp of nature: L’esquerda. Eventually, Single Vineyard Selections r.i. and Chrysopée revealed new nuances of this oh-so-precious terroir.

Purchased by Michel Chapoutier in 1999, Bila-Haut is located in the best part of the Languedoc called the Côtes du Roussillon. Historically the site was one of the first areas planted for viticulture by the Greek Mariners and has been continuously a wine region known for making top quality wines. The translation of the estate's name was once a house of refuge for the Knights Templar, which is why their cross is symbolically used on the label. In the Agly Valley hills, 40+-year-old vines are carefully and meticulously managed by an experienced team of winegrowers, where sustainable farming and low yields combine to create the highest quality fruit. Wine is made in the vineyards, by paying careful attention to the plants and working alongside nature.
