DOMAINE DES CROIX
David Croix
Founded in 2005, Domaine des Croix is the result of a partnership between the talented young oenologist David Croix and a group of American investors, facilitated by Becky Wasserman. Originally from Montlouis in Touraine, David was already known for modernizing the style at Camille Giroud, a Beaune-based winery. When a vineyard in Beaune became available for purchase, the investors offered to fund it and entrusted David with the opportunity to create a domaine of his own. Over time, David’s dedication and skill have established Domaine des Croix as a benchmark producer in the Côte de Beaune, garnering critical acclaim and a growing reputation among Burgundy enthusiasts.

David Croix’s vineyard management practices highlight a deep respect for the environment and a commitment to sustainability. His vineyards cover 7.75 hectares with an average vine age of 50 years. They are cultivated in a manner inspired by organic farming, although they are not certified.
His approach is rooted in a philosophy that prioritizes natural balance and the long-term health of the land. By avoiding synthetic products, he ensures minimal impact on the ecosystem, and his methods, such as working the soil with animal traction and mechanical tools, help preserve soil integrity. By allowing canopies to grow high and late, or through a method known as "tressage," he prioritizes the health and natural balance of the vines. All grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring that only those at full physiological maturity are selected for winemaking.
This sustainable approach offers a promising example of how modern vineyards can combine tradition with environmental stewardship.
David Croix’s winemaking is defined by precision, instinct, and a respect for tradition. Combining technical mastery with a flexible approach, he vinifies with minimal intervention, often incorporating whole clusters and using low levels of sulfur. His methods include classical techniques such as manual punch-downs and élevage in barrels, with some cuvées maturing in foudres. The result is wines of exceptional elegance and complexity-aromatic, refined, and expressive of their terroir. Whether from Beaune premiers crus or the grands crus of Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, David’s wines are celebrated for their approachability in youth and their potential for aging, earning them a place among the finest in Burgundy.
