DOMAINE HAUVETTE

Dominique Hauvette

Daughter of restaurateurs from Val d'Isère, former ski teacher, passionate about horse and riding, it was a bit by chance that in 1980 Dominique Hauvette put her suitcases towards Saint-Rémy de Provence, to ultimately, never leave! In 1988, her father offered to buy her two hectares of vines, just in front of the old farmhouse where she is settled among her horses. Thanks to her strong personality, she created her own style, and over the years has become a key figure in the Provençal vineyard.
Daughter of restaurateurs from Val d'Isère, former ski teacher, passionate about horse and riding, it was a bit by chance that in 1980 Dominique Hauvette put his suitcases towards Saint-Rémy de Provence to, ultimately, never leave! In 1988, her father offered to buy her some two hectares of vines, just in front of the old farmhouse in which she is settled among her horses. Thanks to her strong personality, she created her own style, and over the years has become a key figure in the Provençal vineyard.
Nestled among the Alpilles' foothills, the plantation of 15 hectares is surrounded by a rocky and wild landscape, where the Mistral (cold and dry strong wind in southern France) blows half of the year, the clay-limestone soil retains moisture for the arid summer months.

Dominique is demanding in her choices of viticulture (biodynamic since 2003, massale selection), vinification (destemming, infusion of berries, and sulfur-free) and ageing (concrete egg which doesn’t give any taste to the wine and leave its pure minerality). She respects like no one else the origins of the soils and the authenticity of its terroirs to produce magnificent reds. 40 000 bottles are produced each year, that makes her domain, one of the smallest of the Alpilles region.

Awarded for her work and her wines, Dominique was elected Winemaker of the Year 2020 at the Grand Prix of the famous Revue des Vins de France. She is the first woman to earn that title.
