DOMAINE GAUDRY
Vincent Gaudry
In 1991, Vincent Gaudry joined his father at the family estate, then named Domaine Georges Gaudry. Two years later, he took over the estate and transitioned to organic farming. The 11 hectares (90% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Pinot Noir) have been organically certified since 1995 and received biodynamic certification in 2002.
While being one of the pioneers of biodynamic farming in Sancerre, Vincent Gaudry has never really made it into the spotlight and remains one of the best-kept secrets of the appellation. Yet, within the circle of great producers such as Richard Leroy, Anne Vatan, and Nady Foucault, he is regarded as Sancerre’s finest vigneron. Admired for his talent in viticulture, Anne Vatan hired him to manage her vineyards at Clos Neore.

As early as 2002, Domaine Vincent Gaudry became the first winery in Sancerre to obtain the "Demeter" biodynamic certification. However, this achievement was not enough for Vincent as he was eager to explore more. He committed himself to going above and beyond, seeking a deeper understanding of vine growth and habits and exploring more sustainable planting techniques that were widely used before the 1970s.
The domaine has vineyards on all three main terroirs of Sancerre (caillottes, silex, and terres blanches(Weathered limestone,Flint, Kimmeridgian marl)) and a high percentage of old vines. Vincent avoids any clones in his vineyard, using only massale selection from his oldest vines (50-90 years old). These native varieties have lower yields and produce fruits of different sizes and maturity, giving the wine a natural concentration.
In terms of winemaking, Vincent Gaudry still adheres to pre-modern traditions, using wild yeast to start fermentation. Most of the wines are fermented in old barrels and aged for a long time without filtering or clarification before bottling. His wines show a pure and rich core, not dominated by the characteristics of the Sauvignon Blanc variety, but faithfully reflecting the diverse terroir of Sancerre.
