LE SANG DES CAILLOUX

Serge & Frédéri Férigoule

The Domaine “Le Sang des Cailloux” was created in 1975 in Vacqueyras near Chateauneuf-Du-Pape, Rhône Valley. Serge Férigoule started at the Domaine in 1979 as a field worker. Then in 1990, he finally took over. Vacqueyras had just been awarded an A.O.C. that same year, and it helped Serge’s wines to become as celebrated as they deserve. Today he is working with his son Frédéri.

The terroir, very typical of the region, is made of red clay-limestone covered by a pebble stone soil, which both feeds and drains the vines. “Le Sang des Cailloux” means “the blood of the stones” and refers to the pebbles covering the vineyard.

Father and son have a very strong respect for the environment and are working under biodynamic principles since 2012. The harvest is done by hand.

For red wines, the grapes are 100% destemmed, the vinification is done traditionally in concrete vats with daily pumping over, and the ageing lasts 12 months either in “Foudre” or barrels of 450L.

For whites wines, they do the malo fermentation, and the vinification and ageing are done in barrels of 450L, also during 12 months.
