PETIT ROY

Seiichi Wang

Petit-Roy is an original and exciting venture started in 2016 by Seeichi Saito. His journey started in China, where he was born, but he grew up mostly in Japan. Being interested early in agriculture and farming, Seeichi started studying soils in Japan. His first step in wine began in 2005 through an internship in a Japanese winery. In 2008, at just 22 years old, he decided to move to Burgundy to get deeper experiences, working with a few brilliant domaines such as Simon Bize, Mugnier, Rousseau and Leflaive.

In 2016, Domaine Petit-Roy was born through a little vineyard of 1.3 ha completed by some grapes purchased in Côte de Nuits. With little means, he settled the winery in Chorey les Beaune, working only with organic grapes. His own vineyard is fully worked biodynamically.
Regarding the vinification, Seeichi mostly uses whole clusters for the reds (except Bourgogne l'Orme), limiting extraction with pump-overs and a few gentle punch-down towards the end of alcoholic fermentation (managed through indigenous yeasts). Keeichi being allergic to sulfur, his use of SO2 is minimal, only post élevage or just prior to bottling (without fining or filtration).

Emphasizing whole bunches and gentle extraction, these are "natural" wines of unusual purity and precision. The whites show high-toned white fruit and floral notes, while the reds are full of bright red berries and spice. The wines of Seeichi reflect his personality. They provide immediate enjoyment, combining bright fruit and pure, salivating energy that lingers on the palate.

Another great side of Burgundy!
